We want students to experience reading as something joyful. Reading for pleasure plays a vital role in supporting secondary school students’ academic success while also developing essential skills for life. Regular, enjoyable reading helps students build strong vocabulary, improve comprehension and writing, and develop the focus and critical thinking needed across all subjects. Beyond academics, reading exposes young people to diverse perspectives, fostering empathy, emotional intelligence and wellbeing during a key stage of their development. Most importantly, reading for pleasure nurtures curiosity, independence and a love of learning, preparing students to become confident, lifelong learners ready to embrace opportunities beyond the classroom.
