Student Leadership

Student Leadership at Allestree Woodlands School gives students the opportunity to gain valuable experience and skills, whilst being involved in the running of the school. As a member of the Student Leadership Team, students have five key roles.

1. To be a role model to other students

Student leaders must conduct themselves as if they are members of staff, acting in a responsible manner so that other pupils can be positively influenced by them and follow their example.

2. To help develop the school

The pupils who are entrusted with leadership positions have ideas as to how to help with the continual growth of Allestree Woodlands School. Your ideas will be discussed and implemented if possible.

3. Assist Staff

Our student leaders are given positions of responsibility to help staff in the running of the school. This additional accountability will help to develop your leadership skills and your character as you are exposed to challenging situations. Some staff members may come to you for advice or support. In this instance, a student leader should do their best to help to the best of their ability.

4. Represent the school

Allestree Woodlands School aims to serve our community well, and we wish for our pupils to be a voice for the school as the staff are. The student leaders show the community what Allestree Woodlands School is about, through their character.
You will also be expected to attend the following events in your capacity as a Student Leader:

  • Sixth Form Open Evening
  • Year 6 Open Evening
  • Interview evenings
  • School concerts

You will be expected to take a leadership role in sixth form charity day, coordinating with students from Years 7-11.

5. The Future of You

Having held a student leadership position is incredibly useful when applying for further education and future careers. You will be able to show that you are part of the Student Leadership Team by wearing your badge and leadership lanyard. This is to show other students who you are, as well as give you a sense of pride and identity.

Is being part of the Student Leadership Team for you?
