Inclusion/SEND Support

At Allestree Woodlands School, inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. We are a mainstream, inclusive secondary school committed to ensuring that every young person, regardless of need, background or starting point, can thrive, achieve and feel a strong sense of belonging.

We believe all students are entitled to a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum. High‑quality teaching sits at the centre of our approach, with lessons carefully scaffolded so that students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) can access learning alongside their peers.

Our dedicated Inclusion Team works closely with teachers, families, external agencies and, most importantly, the students themselves. Together we identify needs early, create personalised support plans and review progress regularly. Students with Education, Health and Care Plans have a named key worker who supports coordination and consistency. Adjustments to the curriculum and environment are made wherever needed, from visual supports and assistive technology to tailored literacy, numeracy and wellbeing interventions.

We are proud to host a specialist Enhanced Resource Facility (ERF) for Deaf students, led by our Deputy SENDCo and Teacher of the Deaf. This provision offers tailored support, including specialist teaching, communication support, adapted resources and close liaison with external partners. Students in the ERF are fully included in the life of the school: they access mainstream lessons with the right scaffolding, benefit from specialist intervention where needed, and play a valued role in our wider community.

Our goal is simple: for every young person to feel understood, supported and equipped to make a special contribution to the world we share.
